This article is about the borough called "West Ham", for the football club, see West Ham United F.C.

West Ham is in the London Borough of Newham located 6.1 miles (9.8 km) east north-east of Charing Cross.

From 1888 to 1965 it formed part of the County Borough of West Ham.

The Association Football club, West Ham United F.C. is named after the area. They are nicknamed the Hammers or the irons. This derives from their old existance as the Thames Ironworks whom founded the club. They play at the Boleyn Ground in nearby Upton Park. West Ham, contains West Ham Park, a 77 acre (312,000 m²) public park, and has a London Underground station, West Ham station.

The speedway stadium in West Ham was closed and redeveloped in the early 70's. The Arena Essex Hammers speedway team, that race at Arena Essex next to Thurrock Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex, are now the closest track and took their name from the defunct West Ham team.

West Ham gives its name to the Parliamentary constituency of West Ham, although the constituency extends over other areas such as Plaistow and Stratford. It is currently represented by Lyn Brown.
