Chinese Taipei, the IOC designation for the Province of Taiwan of the People's Republic of China, and more commonly known as Taiwan, will compete in the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar in November and December 2006. The Taiwanese are scheduled to send 399 athletes to the games, making Chinese Taipei the fourth largest delegation after Mainland China, Japan, and South Korea. Despite its small size, it is a second-rank Asian sports power, finishing seventh in gold medals and fifth in overall medals at the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, South Korea. After winning its first ever Olympic gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, the Taiwanese will be looking to improve on its results.
