Amateur (or Olympic) boxing is one of the official Asian Games sport. It's history at the Asiad stems back from the very first Asian Games in New Delhi, India in 1951.<ref>Boxing is steeped in history</ref> Amateur boxing is based on a point scoring system rather than physical damage or knockouts. Bouts comprise of four rounds of two minutes in the Olympics, the Asiad, and the Commonwealth Games and three rounds of two minutes in a national ABA (Amateur Boxing association) bout, each with a one-minute interval between rounds.

A referee monitors the fight to ensure that competitors use only legal blows - any boxer repeatedly landing "low blows" (below the belt) is disqualified). Referees will stop the bout if a boxer is seriously injured, if one boxer is significantly dominating the other or if the score is severely imbalanced.<ref>Andrew Eisele (2005). Eleven (11) gold medals will be at stake in this year's Asiad, one in each of 11 weight divisions. There are 11 silver medals for all categories and two bronze medals are awarded in every weight class. The total number of medals for the boxing event is 44.<ref>44 Boxing medals at stake</ref>

The awarding ceremonies will also be held at the ASPIRE Hall 5.

Last Asian Games' powerhouse countries include: Uzbekistan, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and Thailand, with the Uzbekistan boxers taking home 5 gold medals.<ref>Uzbekistan wins 5 gold in Asian Games boxing</ref>
