The total medal count for all Asian Games from 1951 to 2002 is tabulated below.

This table is sorted by the number of gold medals earned by each National Olympic Committee (NOC). The number of silver medals is taken into consideration next, and then the number of bronze medals. If, after the above, NOCs are still tied, equal ranking is given and they are listed alphabetically. This follows the system used by the IOC, IAAF and BBC, but not by NBC and CNN.

Note that medals won at the Asian Winter Games and Asian Indoor Games are excluded.
