Entourage is an HBO original series created by Doug Ellin that chronicles the rise of Vincent Chase — a young A-list movie star — and his childhood friends from Queens, New York as they navigate the unfamiliar terrain of Hollywood, California. Ellin, Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson, serve as the show's executive producers.

Vince's entourage consists of his manager and best friend, Eric "E" Murphy; his chef and older, less successful half-brother, Johnny "Drama" Chase, best known for his role in the sci-fi series Viking Quest; and his gofer and driver, Turtle. The other major roles are filled by Ari Gold, Vince's ruthless and colorful agent, and Shauna Roberts, Vince's publicist.

Many of the plot points and storylines are based on executive producer Mark Wahlberg's experiences as a rising star in Hollywood. Season two's major storyline, for example, (a big-budget Aquaman movie featuring Vince) is based on Wahlberg's starring role in the remake of Planet of the Apes.^{[citation needed]} Wahlberg guested as himself on the series pilot, foreshadowing dozens of guest appearances to come. Many cameos involve stars appearing as themselves, often spoofing themselves.

The show's title song is "Superhero" from Jane's Addiction's 2003 album, Strays.

Entourage is constantly cycling through recurring characters that last for one or two story arcs. Sometimes these characters are played by celebrities such as Malcolm McDowell as Terence Mackewich or Martin Landau as Bob Ryan and sometimes the celebrities play themselves, such as Mandy Moore and Seth Green.

Entourage typically has at least one or two appearances per episode, from current Hollywood luminaries like Jessica Alba, Holly Valance, Seth Green, Jaime Pressly and James Cameron to older stars like Pauly Shore, James Woods, Val Kilmer, Martin Landau, Bob Saget, Gary Busey, Larry David, Hugh Hefner and Ralph Macchio.

The first episode was simply titled "Entourage" and aired on July 18, 2004. The 12th episode of the third season, "Sorry, Ari", aired on August 27, 2006. According to Entertainment Weekly, the remaining eight episodes of season 3 will air in April 2007 with the fourth season following in June.

• The license plate of the vintage Lincoln Continental shown at the beginning of every show says QSV 11427. This is a zip code for Queens Village, New York and QSV may be an abbreviation of that.
• Adrian Grenier (Vince) attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York which is the same high school Vincent Chase attended on the show. However, in the pilot episode, Turtle is shown to wear a high school jacket with the letter "B," which does not represent the performing arts school. The "B" actually represents Bayside High School in Bayside, Queens. In a later scene, Vince is also shown wearing a shirt with the word "Bayside" on it.
• Several characters appearing in the show are based on well-known figures in the industry. The highly eccentric character Billy Walsh is speculated to be based on Vincent Gallo, Quentin Tarantino and Entourage writer and independent filmmaker, Rob Weiss. Justine Chapin bears an uncanny similarity to Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson, Ari Gold is reportedly based on Hollywood legend Ari Emanuel, Harvey Weingard is a thinly disguised Harvey Weinstein (even down to his work with Kevin Smith), RJ Spencer is an homage to Harry Knowles, and Bob Ryan is speculated to be based on Robert Evans .
• In a true display of life imitating art, rumors began to surface during the second season that James Cameron actually was in talks with Warner Bros to helm an Aquaman feature film starring Mark Wahlberg. Ultimately this proved to be false, with Aquaman appearing in The WB's Smallville several months later and eventually surfacing in his own (ultimately failed) pilot titled Mercy Reef. In addition, Kevin Smith claims he frequently gets asked about Aquaman 2, and often responds by asking them if they ever saw "Aquaman 1."
• In the series Vince is at one point attached to star as Pablo Escobar in Medellin but ultimately loses the role to Benicio Del Toro; In real life, Del Toro was at one point slated to star in the film version of Mark Bowden's Killing Pablo.
